The new Whangārei Civic Centre, Te Iwitahi, brings to Whangārei a central hub for its civic facilities and services.
Te Iwitahi is the product of the Whangārei Council’s partnerships with local Hapu, community advisory groups, and local businesses and organisations. This community-owned facility marks the first time in more than 30 years that Whangārei has had a central hub for its civic facilities and services. Universal design principles, sustainability and an integrated cultural narrative are at the core of the building’s design.
Walkspace were engaged to supply the bespoke feature screens, consisting internally lit corten and Totara timber screens, a major feature of the entrance to the new Civic building. A challenging project, with numerous changes required during detail design, the team used their expertise and experience in design and supply of bespoke elements such as these to deliver an outstanding result.
