A former site of NZ Railway's maintenance yard, Parnell is a new public station at the end of Cheshire street, Parnell. The works have been split into two separate stages, with Stage 1 nearing completion (Nov 2015) allowing public usage. Stage 2 will see the old station building re-appropriated from the old Newmarket station, moved onto the new Eastern Parnell platform and being completely renovated.
Walkspace was engaged to supply the seating which was designed and manufactured to meet and exceed all specifications of the Auckland Transport Common Elements guidelines. The seating was detailed to deliver a durable and robust yet functional seat which has been installed at the Train Station platform. Given the new electrification of the Auckland rail system, seating needed to employ specific earthing requirements to ensure optimum public safety in the event of electrical malfunction.
